Men's Health Month 2023

Dr Simon Kerr
November 16, 2023

This November, we are supporting and raising the profile of the MoVember Foundation’s mission of solving the biggest health issues facing men: mental health and suicide prevention, prostate cancer and testicular cancer. These issues are massive:

  • globally, on average, 1 man dies by suicide every minute of every day.  The rate of male suicide is alarmingly high: 3 out of 4 suicides in Australia are by men.
  • testicular cancer is the #1 cancer in younger guys.
  • prostate cancer is the #1 cancer in men over 45.

At Paddington Doctors we know the needs of men and we have designed our services with those needs in mind. Come and see us and we’ll talk you through everything you need to know – whether you need any extra support, some tests, how to get them done, what results mean, and what to do next.We have supported thousands of men through challenging times and this is what we have learned:

it’s crucial to start conversations early and early detection is key.  Taking action early – be it talking or testing – can make a huge difference

  • testicles, nuts, balls, the family jewels – whatever you call them, it’s important to learn how to feel them.  Get to know what's normal for you and if you notice a change or that something doesn't feel right you'll know that you need to act on it.  Every testicle is unique. Getting to know yours means that if something hurts, changes or doesn’t feel right, you know not to panic – instead, you make an appointment to see one of us and get it checked out
  • Just by knowing some important facts about risk – and knowing when to take action – you can understand your risk and the symptoms of prostate cancer. Having that information means knowing when to start conversations with your doctor. And it means, when the time is right, taking action and not hesitating.
